First Māori nurse appointed as New Zealand's Chief Nurse

Northland DHB nursing director Margareth Broodkorn has been appointed as the Ministry of Health’s new Chief Nursing Officer.

Margareth Broodkoorn, of Ngāpuhi and Dutch whakapapa, is believed to be the first Ministry of Health chief nurse of Māori descent.

Her appointment follows the resignation of Dr Jane O’Malley, who left the Ministry in February to take up the role of Plunket’s first chief nurse.
