The Code of Practice for Health Workers

This course has been developed to raise awareness of the Ministry of Health’s Code of Practice for Health Workers. This course will increase health workers’ knowledge of how to practice in accordance with the Code of Practice for Health Workers.

As a result of this course, you will:

  • know your responsibilities under the Code of Practice for Health Workers
  • protect, promote and support breastfeeding
  • provide appropriate advice on formula feeding where necessary
  • identify the acceptable use of gifts, samples or donations from formula companies
  • identify any breaches of the INC Code of Practice and the Code of Practice for Health Workers

This course is designed for health practitioners and other health workers who work with pregnant women, mothers and carers of infants, including (but not limited to):

  • Midwives
  • Lactation consultants
  • Doctors (GPs, Paediatricians, Obstetricians)
  • Registered Nurses
  • Nurse Practitioners
  • Dietitians
  • Pharmacists
  • Community health workers – Karitane, Kaiawhina, Kaiwhakapuawai
  • Childbirth Educators
